Peteca

??? / ???/???

Arguably the most enigmatic entitiy on Imigrantes Road so far, Peteca is a black cat with heterochromic eyes and yellow dashes along their back, looking like those that might be seen on a road, and a constantly changing number of paws, resembling the supports of a bridge. Their eyes are their most striking feature, their left being blue and right being red, and their right eye seemingly dripping down their face as if it were a fluid. At times Peteca is depicted with tiny cars driving along their road-like back. All characters fail to comment on any aspect of their appearance save for their black fur.
Peteca's appearances are always only towards specific individuals and are not always visible to others, suggesting they have some unnatural properties. Currently, we know Peteca to have appeared to Bento, Socorro, and Julie. It is likely that they also appeared to Lilian Paiva[1] prior to her murder of her coworkers. Both Lilian and Socorro have had their eyes change colour to match Peteca's, though the meaning of this is currently unclear.

Another example of Peteca's anomalous nature is their tendency to appear in tandem with visual distorions, as seen in Happy New Year 2007[2], what happened to lilian paiva[3], and Episode 1 and 2. These distortions often include depictions of Peteca as well, even when Peteca is not present.

The only known character to speak directly to to Peteca so far is Julie, who is met with little more than a blank stare from the feline. Julie seems to pause and respond as if Peteca were speaking back to her. When Julie asks Peteca's name, she seems to be told the name "Socorro." It should be noted that Socorro is also Portuguese for "help," so this is could be not necessarily referring to Socorro the character. An important detail is Peteсa’s conjectured ability to communicate using subtitles. This happens in the first episode, when non-diegetic captions appear above Peteca[5] and, thus far, is the only instance.

Peteca's goals and alignment are a common talking point in conversations of lore and theorizing, as it is not clear yet if they aim to aid our protaganists or carry out the will of Fundacao Mariposa[4]. Many point to the text at the end of Episode 1[5] as evidence against Peteca being an antagonistic force. However, one of Peteca's most damning appearances is in what happened to lilian paiva[6]. The message present at the end over the video seems equally indicative of malice as the previous is of benevolence, leaving Peteca's true goals still in the dark.
